Message EGT is useful when you're having misfires on a single cylinder (or cylinder bank, depending on the install). For most people, it's overkill (and an EGT alone is not going to provide much useful info for tuning). I have them after I got rid of my detonation sensor, as they provide another way of spotting detonation. Safety first - but I'm on a safe tune and not trying to break any records, so it's really unnecessary aside from providing a little more info about how the car is operating and if I got a bad tank of gas. I'd say just use it without the datalogging if you already have the setup for it, unless you're trying to get it tuned very precisely for max output.
